In early 2012, fans rallied through a petition urging the arrival of Dark Souls on PC, garnering over 93,000 signatures. Confirmation of a PC version emerged in April 2012 via German magazine PC Action. Development challenges were noted, as FromSoftware grappled with the PC platform and leaned towards content creation over optimization. Renamed the "Prepare To Die Edition," it debuted in August 2012, introducing fresh content including bosses, adversaries, equipment, and NPCs. The PC iteration launched on August 23, 2012.
